A.
If, by zooming into a desired location and the specific street you are looking for does not appear, but surrounding streets do, please click here for more information.
Q. How
do I locate my address? A. Aside from manually zooming in to the area until you locate the address, you can use the ‘Search’ and ‘Address’ menu command to quickly locate your address. Type in your address in the format ‘street’, ‘city’, ‘state’, ’zip’ making sure to place a comma between the fields, and click on ‘Find’. If a listing of address matches appears, highlight the address that is the closest match and click on OK.
Q. Why
can’t I search for my street address when I put in the whole address? A. Make sure that you typed the address in the correct format. For example, 231 Sutton St, N Andover, MA, 01845. Don’t include periods "." after St or the state abbreviations. If the format is correct and you still
can’t find the address, make sure that you have the CD-ROM disc inside
of the drive. Also, select ‘File’, ‘Configure’, and make sure that
the data directories all point to your CD-ROM drive. If you are still unable to find your address, zoom into the city (‘Search’, ‘City’), and try to search for the street only – don’t include the city, state, or zip code information. If you cannot see your street, then it is not in the database. See the question on I think I have found a database error. If you can see your street, but are still unable to perform a successful Street Search, see the question on I think I have found a database error.
Q. Why
can’t I upload information to my Garmin GPS unit? It worked in version
3.5 A.
Garmin
GPS units transfer data at 9600 baud when in the GRMN/GRMN mode, while
4800 baud is used when in Trip mode.
Ver. 3.5 automatically changed to 9600 baud when the data transfer
mode was selected, while the early 4.0 version remained at 4800 baud.
If you experience problems with data transfer, and you have a
version of Traveler that is earlier than 4.0.103, select File,
Configurations, GPS and make sure the baud rate is set at 9600.
When you are through with data transfer, or wish to go to Trip
Mode, you must set the baud rate back to 4800 and enable NMEA output
Q. How
do I use the Trip Mode? A. First, verify that the baud rate and COM port on the GPS settings match those of the program settings. To view the program setting click "File", "Configure", then the "GPS" tab. Make sure that the settings are properly set up. Now, make sure NMEA mode on your GPS unit is on, and press "F11" in the program. Press F11 to get out of Trip Mode. It may be necessary to check your settings via the hyper terminal. Contact your GPS manufacturer for further information and assistance.
Q. Can I
use a GPS unit other than a Magellan, Eagle/Lowrance, and Garmin? A. If the GPS unit can provide NMEA-0183 output, and you can connect the unit to the computer through a properly setup serial port, the unit should work in the Trip Mode. However, you will not be able to use the Data Transfer Mode unless you have one of the supported GPS units.
Q. How
do I clear a route created by a point-to-point calculation? A. Clearing a track/route created by a point-to-point calculation is a two-step process. First, choose ‘Point-to-Point’, then ‘Clear Point-to-Point Track’. This will clear the route off the screen. To clear the track, go to ‘Tracks’ and then choose ‘Clear Track’. The program will prompt you to save the track before deleting it. You can name it and save it first if you wish, or continue and the track will be deleted. Q. When
using the point-to-point calculation feature, how do I clear my start and
end points? A. The
start/end point icons are used by the program in its Point-to-Point route
calculations. Currently you can only clear these icons from the display by
restarting the program. If you wish to specify a different start/end point
for another route calculation, click on the Start/End icons in the toolbar
and then click on a new position. The start/end point icons will move to
the new location. Q.
I think I have found a database error. What should I do? A. At Undertow Software, we strive to bring you the highest quality, most up to date database available. Occasionally, there will be errors in the database we use. In this case, make a copy of the area on the map that is incorrect (see your help topic file for exporting a map in "File Commands") and email it or fax it to (815) 886-9823. We will do our best to correct these errors in future versions.
A.
Occasionally, the Tiger
classification road priority and the On/Off ramp orientation on limited
access highways result in a break in the routing algorithm. Unfortunately,
the logic in the routing software can not bypass these breaks. As these
broken roadway segments are discovered, they are corrected in the file
XMAP.RTE. This external file bridges the problem node points to make
certain the router can get from one node to another, bypassing the problem
in the data.
