NUVI Connection

Postby Macci3 » Sun May 09, 2010 10:23 am

Does anyone know how I can connect my Garmin NUVI to the program? I've talked to Garmin twice and I am being told that it cannot be done, but I swear, I've talked to other RVers that have done it. Does anybody know how?

When I bought my Nuvi, I looked around on line to see how to make it work and eventually called Garmin and was told that Nuvis cannot be used as external antenas with map software. Then, I saw the above entry in the FAQ. Worked like a charm. I even emailed Garmin and told them if they were looking to find out how to get their Nuvis to work with software, they should contact Undertow. Never got a response :-)

My Nuvi definitely works with TL-2010 on my Vista laptop. I don't care what Garmin says. Someone should call them and let their tech support know about it, so they stop misleading their customers.

Maybe they don't want to support it. This wouldn't be the first time people have gotten multiple products to work together but the respective companies won't say it's allowed or supported, because if there is a problem they don't want to spend the time or effort to work on it or fix it.

I used to work for a company like that. There were some clever customers who found ways to use our products outside our declarations. But when they had a problem we did not have the proper business arrangement, tools or knowledge of the other products to warrant spending time (and money) to support it.

When the respective companies get these types of problems solved, maybe they'll change their mind, but it's got to be worth it financially. Customer Initiative and Corporate Capitalizism at their best.

This is why forums are so popular.

Yeah, but apparently in this case Nuvis *DO* support the mode to send GPS data to the computer, so why would Garmin say otherwise? I can understand what you say, in principle, but allowing one's device to work with additional components (software, hardware, etc.) by simply letting users know they have to press a key sequence, with no additional effort on your part seems like a no brainer to me ;-)
