Printing Problem

Postby Eugene » Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:01 am

I want to relate this printing experience to others here, in case someone else is having similar problems.

I installed the program and it all worked fine. However, I cannot print anything from it. Whether it's the trip directions, or the current map, nothing. The print dialog opens, my current printer is selected, I click print, the dialog closes, but no printout. I check my printer status, no print jobs pending. At that point, I can open any other program and print to that printer, but not from the Navigator.

I have tried everything I can think of to try and get this to work. This is a Brother inkject, run-of-the-mill printer, connected to the computer through a USB port. I have rebooted the computer and re-installed the program nultiple times and I have also downloaded the latest update for it, from the web.

If anyone has any ideas for me to try, I would be grateful.

Eugene, is that the ONLY printer installed in Windows? (You can check under Control Panel). If not, can you select and print to a different printer? One of the things I would try, in order to determine if it's a program issue, or something else, is I would get one of those free PDF creators on line, install it and then print to that device. That may tell you if the problem is with the program, or a device driver, or something else.

There are a whole bunch of devices in Control panel. There is an HP printer and a Canon printer, that I don't currently have connected, there is a microsoft XPS document writer. There is only one printer currently connected, the Brother. I wonder if the program may not be compatible with Brother printers.

BTW, I have played with ALL the options in the programs print dialog and have tried to print after each time, but nothing. I need to print these directions before we get on the road, next week, and I can't. Very frustrating.

If it makes any difference, I even re-installed the Brother printer in Windows and deleted the old one from Control Panel, but nothing works.

I also just found out that when the program is running, my google chrome acts funny. Like I will be trying to type in a web address and some program will open, instead!

This was supposed to make my travel planning easier. Give me the old paper maps with the paper and pen for notes :-(

Well, Eugene, last year I had similar problems with TLCN-2011, and here is what support had me do, which solved my problem. Stopped the program and exited it. I looked in my docs folder and found a folder TLDCN2011. Then, in that folder, I found a file TLDCN2011 of type "Configuration settings". I renamed the file with windows to TLDCN2011a. Then, I run the program again, wen to the print dialog, made sure I selected my printer and printed without any problems.

As for the chrome, I don't think the program as anything to do with it, but then I am not really sure.

I tried that, renaming the file, but the program will not let me. I highlight the file name, then right-click, select rename the file is highlighted, then I tried to type "a" at the end, but nothing happens. No characters are being typed into the box. Needless to say, the the problem still persists and I can't print. I really have no problem printing from any other program, just from the Navigator, so It's got to be something with the program. And now, I can't even rename files. And, starting the program now takes a long time.

Sorry to come into this thread late. Eugene, first the weird behavior you are describing with chrome and not being able to rename files, etc. points to some possibly problems with you OS settings, regardless of applications. Second, you mentioned something about deleting re-installing the drivers for the printer and depending on how carefully you did that, you may end up with a printer selection in a program (from a prior session) that is "slightly" different than the "new" one that is currently installed, because you may have missed a space, or a dash, or a period,... So the program is sending the output to a device that doesn't actually exist.

Here is what I would suggest.

(1) As Victra suggested, locate the configuration file, right-click on it and select Delete. Confirm the action to make sure that the file is deleted. Note: Make sure the program is NOT running when you do that.

(2) Go to control Panel, Devices/Printers, and locate the printer that is currently installed and connected to the computer. Right-click on it and select "Set As Default Printer". Close the dialog.

(3) Start the program, select the print action you want and when the program's print dialog appears, make sure the printer you selected in (2) is currently selected.

(4) Print

If that doesn't work, it implies there may be some more serious issues with your computer and the OS. You may want to try MrHagen's suggestion of printing to a pdf.
